BLAST Ring Image Generator (BRIG)

Gallery of BRIG Images

These are a number of figures we’ve generated using BRIG to show its capabilities. The BRIG Manual has a detailed walkthrough using worked examples to show how to make images just like these.

BRIG example output image of a simulated draft E. coli O157:H7 genome. The figure show BLAST comparisons of 28 other published (E. coli and Salmonella) genomes against the simulated draft genome.

Central reference: A list of genes that make up the Locus of Enterocyte Effacement in E. coli. This encodes Type III secretion. These genes are all virulence factors. Query: Raw sequencing reads simulated from complete published genomes (nucleotide sequence) of a several E. coli, Citrobacter ( another LEE+ organism) and E. coli K12, (negative control; LEE-). This image compared with the image above shows gene presence/absence can be determined even when using raw read sequences.
